Blake Johnson

#HaveYouHerd: Kicking off today’s #FridayFeature is someone who helps connect people in their 20s and 30s with the Indianapolis community. Blake Johnson is the President/CEO of IndyHub, a nonprofit dedicated to growing, engaging, and empowering young professionals. To learn all about the great things that Blake is doing for Indianapolis, keep on reading.

Blake is the President/CEO of IndyHub, an Indianapolis-based non-profit focused on the growth, engagement, and empowerment of Millennial and Gen-Z talent in central Indiana. They host events and programs designed to help young professionals get connected, get involved, and shape the city. Blake has also been a member of the Indiana House of Representatives since July of 2020 and has previously served on the Indianapolis City-County Council.

#FunFact: When Blake was elected to the Indianapolis City-County Council, he was the youngest member of the city's legislative body. Prior to his work with nonprofits and the government, Blake interned for the A&R Department at Island Def Jam Records in New York. If you ever see Blake out and about, ask him to share some stories about run-ins with Jay-Z!

IndyHub is in the business of connection. They get people connected with each other, their city, the arts, and the culture scene and with opportunities to leave a mark for generations to come. Their mission is to grow, engage and empower a community of 20-and 30-somethings who are meaningfully connected to Indy and invested in its future. They do this by involving and empowering Indy’s young and talented residents and connecting them to volunteer opportunities, interest groups, social events, and people all over the city.

We asked Blake what the most gratifying part of his job is, and he said, “IndyHub is all about people and helping them find their place in this city. Every day, we wake up and think of new and exciting ways to make Indy feel like home, and when we have the opportunity to help someone find a volunteer opportunity, meet new people, or channel them into leadership roles, it makes the work even more exciting. We’re in the business of connection and belonging, and it’s a job unlike any other.”

Currently, Blake is working on Meet Indy, an initiative from IndyHub that connects you with a City Ambassador that will introduce you to other people you should know, get you invitations to events and programs, and lead you to opportunities to take on leadership roles. He is also Coaching the next generation of Indy’s leaders through discussions with urban advocates and one-on-one mentoring through The 1828 Leadership Project presented by Citizens Energy Group. It’s a lot of work, but we know Blake is capable of it!

Having Blake here to care for the next generation of entrepreneurs, CEOs, and Presidents gives us all hope for the future of Indianapolis.
