Mossy Stone

#HaveYouHerd: Another Friday means another Friday Feature. Today’s feature is someone who is a storyteller and literacy advocate. Miss Mossy Stone is Indianapolis’s Literate Drag Queen. She is a fantastic storyteller and person.

Mossy is originally from Nashville, Tennesse, but she has since relocated to our beautiful city of Indianapolis. She is a drag performer and author. She is the President of Publishing and co-founder of Mithra Co., where she and her team have created a new digital ecosystem for the publishing industry. She is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a former elementary teacher. Mossy Stone is full of surprises!

We asked Mossy what does being free mean to her, and she said, “I think being free would be to live unencumbered by oppression, violence, and judgment by government, religion, and the far-right. Until Black Americans are free from modern slavery of prison labor and violence from police, until Black Trans Americans are safe to be themselves in this world, until we see equity, reparations, and proof that ALL citizens are seen as equal under the law- we are not a free country. As we fight for the world we hope to see, it’s important to find safe spaces where you can, in fact, feel free.”

Some advice that Mossy shared with us for the next generation of LGBTQ+ is, “There is no religion, political party, creed, philosophy or Kool-aid that supersedes your right to be treated with dignity and respect. Never settle. Don't seek to make yourself palatable to the seemingly immovable and terrified straight community. They can hire a therapist and get over it. We exist. We are valid. We don't have to live by their norms, standards, or religions. Choose your family. Love yourself. Have hope. Be brave. And, as always, keep reading!” We love what she had to say.

Currently, Mossy Stone is working on fictional backstories of drag queens’ personas and turning them into novellas. She donates 50% of the proceeds to an organization of their choice. Her next story is about Brazilian drag queen Angelina Lovelace (@angelinalovelace). A fun fact we found out about Mossy Stone is that she loves to travel. She has 24 stamps on her passport! That is amazing.

Mossy Stone is a true queen, doing only what makes her happy. We thank you for your advocacy and your light. To keep up with Mossy Stone, you can follow her on Twitter (@missmossystone), Instagram (@missmossystone), or her website: https://www.missmossystone.com/home-1.
