Linda Broadfoot

#HaveYouHerd: Kicking off our first #FridayFeature for November is someone who makes us want to come back for seconds. Linda Broadfoot is the CEO of Second Helpings, a nonprofit that addresses food rescue, hunger relief, and culinary job training in Central Indiana. To learn all about how she is working towards helping our community, keep on reading.

Linda received her bachelor’s degree in marketing and French from Butler University and a Master of Public Affairs from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI. Prior to becoming the CEO of Seconds Helpings, Linda was the Director of Indy Parks, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Well Done Marketing, and Executive Director for the Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation. All of her past experience has brought her to where she is now, serving as the CEO of Second Helpings, where she leads them in their mission of transforming lives through the power of food.

Second Helpings is able to accomplish this mission by rescuing donated perishable and overstocked food to prepare nutritious meals for thousands of hungry children and adults daily. Once the food is prepared, they distribute these meals free of charge through the help of local social service agencies in the Greater Indianapolis area. Second Helpings also trains unemployed and underemployed adults for meaningful careers in the culinary industry.

We asked Linda what the most gratifying part of her job is, and she said, “There is so much to love! I’ve been a fan of and friend to Second Helpings for years. But working at Indy Parks during the early days of the pandemic really helped me understand the importance of and the urgency around food. It’s an unbelievable honor to be able to serve my community in this way now.”

In 2020, Second Helpings had to reinvent themselves and increase meal production to help support our community during the pandemic. Now, despite Linda having only been with the organization for a month, she is already envisioning the future of Second Helpings and what 2022 will look like for them.

We couldn’t be more relieved to know that someone as motivated and community-orientated as Linda will be leading the efforts of Second Helpings.
