Trinity Haven

#HaveYouHerd: Kicking off our #FridayFeature for the month of June is a new organization that aims to combat homelessness amongst the LGBTQ+ society. Trinity Haven provides safe, affirming housing for LGBTQ youth experiencing housing instability. To learn all about how Trinity Haven aims to help keep our LGBTQ+ members off the streets, keep on reading.

According to the Indy Star, roughly 40% of LGBTQ+ teens have experienced homelessness. These numbers are even more alarming, knowing that only about 10% of teens identify as LGBTQ+. This summer, Indiana’s first transitional housing for homeless LGBTQ youth will open in the Mapleton Fall Creek area.

Trinity Haven’s mission is to provide safe, affirming housing for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing housing instability. Trinity Haven’s Transitional Living Program (TLP) provides a safe, welcoming, and affirming home for LGBTQ youth and young adults ages 16-21 who do not have homes of their own. The goal of TLP is to intervene before youth experience chronic homelessness and help them pursue their education and develop the skills to thrive in the world independently. Upon graduating from our program, the youth will then transition into safe and stable permanent housing equipped with the skills to maintain that housing successfully.

The TLP will provide long-term housing for up to 24 months. It is not a shelter or a drop-in center. The capacity of the home is limited to 8 youth to maintain a family-like environment.
