There are many that believe the number 10 represents the completion of a cycle; that an individual started a journey or a task and it is now finished and a new life rooted in the lessons learned will begin. Ten is the very first number that needs a separate part, its power drawn from the number 1 which symbolizes new beginnings and opportunities that you can make use of and 0, symbolizing infinity or oneness.

Ten is also the highest score possible in Olympic competitions and for all you hoopster enthusiasts, the top rim of the basketball goal is always 10 feet above the court.

Ten years ago I started my journey as an entrepreneur. It was a dream I’d always had but was always too afraid to try. But on August 8, 2008, I received an unexpected push and my days of working for someone came to an abrupt end.

Looking back over the past ten years I can truthfully say that it has been the best of times and the worst of times but that storyline exists for anyone who has to go to work everyday. There’s no difference there. But as a business owner I have a strong sense of pride and accomplishment when I think about the clients who have and continue to trust me with their business, the people who believe in my dream and made the decision to join me on this journey, the mentors and advisors who have provided sage wisdom and tough love and the community who has embraced my vision and supported me at every turn. I also appreciate those who have placed obstacles in front of me in an effort to thwart my efforts. Their attempts have only made me stronger.

On August 8, 2008 life as I knew it came to an end, but I made the decision that on August 9, 2008, my new normal would begin. Things come to an end so something new can begin. Sometimes things are ended by our own doing and sometimes by the acts of others. However the change is presented, it is imperative that it is embraced fully, that you give yourself permission to react and then prepare for whatever may come your way.

The sun will rise and set until the end of time and the past ten years have taught me to live each day to its fullest. As I embark on the next ten years my plan is to spread my wings as far as I can and soar to new heights. I often marvel at how far I’ve come since August 8, 2008. Hello August 8, 2018; its great to see you. I am grateful for my past, proud of my present and ready to face my future. Let’s Go!
