Life has so many distractions. As an entrepreneur, remaining focused on achieving your goals can almost seem daunting.  It’s so hard. It’s hard to stay on track and the list of excuses is never ending. Personal responsibilities, client demands, requests from staff and vendors, business development efforts … the list goes on and on. But we have to stay the course.

As an entrepreneur, you will constantly be tested to your maximum limits as you try to remain focused on what you are trying to achieve. And sometimes you will not succeed.  Believe me, I’ve failed many times. But it’s not the fact that you’ve failed at reaching a particular goal it’s about getting up again, putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward.

So when the load is heavy and it seems like your goals have become blurred out of reach, remember these five things to help you regain your footing and move closer to the finish line:

  1. The best way to remain focused is to conceive that goal as “already in existence now”. Visualize it as being in existence and keep reaching for it until it is in your hand.
  2. Don’t be discouraged when the means of reaching your goals may not be apparent. Your mind will supply the means when you supply the goal.
  3. Mistakes will happen. Failure will happen. These are things that are inevitable. But your true measure will come after rise up after the fall.
  4. The only way to learn a new skill is by trial and error.  Making a mistake is a good thing. It gives us a chance to learn and grow. Don’t be afraid – celebrate what you learn.
  5. We have to learn to trust our efforts and let them do their work. Don’t give up even if the results are slow to come.

Choose your target or goal carefully and make sure to devote time each and every day to do something that brings you closer to accomplishment.  Keep that goal top of mind and imagine what it looks like and how it will feel when you are celebrating your success.  Whether it be a better life, more time with your family, a new client, or financial freedom, keep that picture in your mind. By doing so, you will create a plan for remaining focused and a goal you can be proud of.
