We are entering the last month of the 2nd quarter and it is a fine time to begin thinking about how you will rock out the 2nd half of the year. We talked earlier this year about setting quarterly goals as opposed to annual goals as a way to have more meaningful reflection, calibration, success, and accountability. As you begin to think about the quarters 3 and 4, I am challenging you to prioritize a few areas:

  1. Self-care: We are all doing so much to accomplish our goals and meet our responsibilities that oftentimes we forget to care for the vessel itself. I am included in this equation. Just yesterday I FINALLY made time to have a manicure and pedicure and completely passed out in the spa chair. Remember that our bodies are like well-oiled machines. We have to ensure that proper maintenance and care are performed on schedule if we don’t want our engines to give out.
  2. Have fun: It’s summertime and that means, fun, fun, fun. I know that you’re busy and deadlines are still pending but be determined not to limit your summer fun to one week of scheduled vacation. Incorporate some fun and relaxation into your average work week. Get out and enjoy all that the city offers. Take that meeting outside of the conference room and onto a rooftop. Make sure the kiddos are having lots of fun too. Popsicles work well for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (the ones made of fruits and veggie blends of course J). Whatever you do, just make sure you’re taking time to smell the roses and savoring the moment. Old man winter will be back before you know it!
  3. Read more: As a mom with young kiddos, rarely do I find the time to really sit down with a good book, which is painful because reading is so vital to my evolution. But sadly, the more people I talk to the more I find that this reality is true for people at all stages of life. I am challenging you to read a few good books in this second half, some that will increase your knowledge base of whatever you’re in to, some that will increase your own self-awareness, and some that are purely for indulgence. We will all be better for it.

So there you have it, a few quick priority areas to help you jump start your plans for the second half of the year. I hope it’s even better than the first one!
