In celebration of Black History Month, our Friday Focus posts will highlight African Americans who have made an impact in the communications industry.

Today’s Friday Focus is on marketing communications pioneer and Advertising Hall of Fame inductee Tom Burrell. Burrell is credited with revolutionizing the image of African Americans in television and changing the face of American advertising.

As the founder of Burrell Communications Group, his award-winning work promotes positive and realistic images of blacks and acknowledges the purchasing power of the African American community.

Burrell is also the founder of The Resolution Project, a nonprofit organization that promotes intra-racial dialogue and community-based new media “stop the brainwash” campaigns.
