If you ever wondered who paved the way for African-Americans in public relations, the legendary Inez Kaiser would be one first practitioners to be mentioned. Inez Kaiser was the first African-American woman to own a public relations firm in the United States and was the first African-American to own a business in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Kaiser opened Inez Kaiser & Associates in 1957 during a time in American history when blacks were still fighting for civil rights. She acquired 7-UP as a client as well as accounts with other big name national companies.
